DAVID “TRUGOY THE Dove” Jolicoeur, one third of De La Soul’s legendary rap triumvirate, has died, Rolling Stone has confirmed.
The information was first reported by AllHipHop. He was 54 years old. The cause of death was not disclosed. Trugoy, last known as Dave and also known as Plug Two, has been open about his battle with congestive heart failure in recent years.In De La Soul 208’s “Royalty Capes,” Trugoy spoke candidly about how poor health kept him from performing.
“I’m ready to get back on stage,” he said. “I miss him. I love to travel. I love being with my boys and I want him back.De La Soul attended last week’s Grammy performance, but Trugoy wasn’t on stage with his bandmates.
Recognized as one of the most innovative bands in rap history, De La Soul first rose to prominence in the early 1990s when they represented a playful balance in the burgeoning gangsta rap scene.
