According to correction officials on Friday, Edgar Ray Killen, the preacher and Ku Klux Klan leader convicted and imprisoned for over forty years after he plotted the killings of three civil rights activists in 1964, has died in prison. The state’s Department of Corrections said in a statement on their website Friday that Killen, who would have turned 93 on January 17th, was pronounced dead Thursday night at the hospital in Mississippi State Penitentiary.
