A jealous man who senselessly gunned down an aspiring architect in Brooklyn for flirting with his wife was sentenced to 20 years to life on Friday.
Lawrence Jones was convicted for the premeditated murder of Isaiah Roberts, who was lured to the Howard Ave. location in Bed-Stuy on May 25, 2012, by another person to get him back for the alleged teasing.
“Jones killed this young man for no other reason than he believed he disrespected, a simple flirtation, on a bus, that happened long before this incident,” said Judge Michael Gary.
The men got into a heated argument when Jones pulled out a gun and as Roberts tried to run away, he was shot in the back. Roberts, 18, was an immigrant from Trinidad with hopes of pursuing a career in architecture.
Jones maintained his innocence and claims the prosecutor has evidence to prove that a witness who testified at the trial recanted testimony.
