Masked Men Break In, Take $20K In Items In Miami Cellphone Store

It was a striking site in Miami as many slept and others were distracted by Hurricane Matthew and the damage it was causing.

Surveillance cameras captured burglars smashing their way into a store filled with i-Phones and stealing up to $20,000 worth of items.

The owner of the i-Town store met Friday morning with Miami Police detectives. The criminals broke into the business around 2 a.m.

A camera inside the i-Town store caught sudden movement and the glass of the front door being shattered.

Two criminals – disguised in hoods and masks – broke in and started to ransack the business at southeast 2nd Avenue and 1st Street in Miami. They seemed to take whatever they wanted including many i-Phones.

Estefania Calibar is the owner.

“This morning police called us and told us someone broke into the store. Some people steal $20,000 worth of items from the store. We are very sad because it’s our hard work. We worked for this,” said Calibar.

The burglars were prepared. You could see one of them using a small sledge-hammer. Surveillance tape shows them spending a significant amount of time there.

“We feel really sad because it’s really bad. We work every day really hard for our money and just for people to come and take it. It’s not fair,” said Calibar.

Calibar, like others, was worried she might be victimized and hurt by Hurricane Matthew and had not expected something like this, which seemed particularly cruel as she was worried about that storm.

Now Calibar and her staff are left with the clean-up. She hopes someone will recognize something or some feature about these suspects who she says mostly stole Apple products.

“It’s two people so any anyone who has clubs can call Crime Stoppers,” said Calibar. “If they can call police and give whatever clues they can it will help.”

It was certainly a discouraging site for the store owner. It’s not clear how much of her losses are covered by insurance.

It’s also not clear if these suspects have struck before.
