Sheldy-Nelson-margarita

A Massachusetts mother has been arrested on child endangerment charges after she gave her young daughter some of her margarita in her sippy cup.

On August 29 of last year, Sheldy Nelson, 41, drunkenly poured some of her margarita into her 2-year-old daughter’s cup at Brodies Seaport. Nelson then ignored multiple warnings from their waitress to stop giving her daughter the alcohol, according to reports. Nelson tried to cover up her actions by saying she was merely giving the girl some of the ice from her drink, but members of the waitstaff at the restaurant say the mother gave her daughter full sips.

Paramedics were eventually called when Nelson and her 2-year-old daughter appeared to be very drunk and both were taken to the hospital. The girl had alcohol in her system, according to reports, and police also discovered the sippy cup, which smelled like alcohol, in a bag Nelson was carrying. The Salem News also reported that Nelson was slurring her words and began to vomit while speaking to police.

Nelson was arraigned in court on Thursday on child endangerment charges along with an additional charge of supplying alcohol to a minor. Nelson also received an additional child endangerment charge during an incident that occurred on September 19 during a supervised visit with her son, where she shook the child violently after becoming upset when a social worker came into the room.

The child has been taken into custody by the Department of Children and Families.
