A mother is accused of punching her son in the face because she thought he was “being too feminine and gay.”
WMC-TV reports that Jacqueiline Alexander has been charged with domestic assault for the incident that happened Tuesday.
Memphis police told WMC that Alexander’s son was lying in bed when she punched him, telling him he was “being too feminine and gay.”
“No, that’s not right. I mean, that’s her flesh and blood, her son,” neighbor Tamika Heard told WMC. “No, that’s not right.”
Will Batts runs the Memphis Gay and Lesbian Center. He said stories like this are not uncommon.
“It’s shocking every time it happens, but it’s not new to us at the center,” Batts told WMC. “We hear a lot of stories about people who are assaulted by family members. Young people who are kicked out of their houses when they come out to a parent.”
Alexander was jailed on $1,000 bond. It is not known how old her son is.
