Natalie McIntyre, better known as Macy Gray, burst onto the mainstream music scene in the late ‘90s with her debut album, On How Life. It took some time for her deep and husky voice to be appreciated. But after a few months, her single “I Try” became a hit and she took home a Grammy for Best Female Pop Vocal Performance. Initially, journalists loved the quirky songstress, but Macy admitted she became too self-centered, which led to the media getting turned off by her attitude. Away from the public eye, she was dealing with much more than an inflated ego.
