In a market in which money equals power, where you buy from is almost more important than what you buy. WhereU, a new app that uses GPS to find the nearest black-owned businesses, seeks to put more of that power in the black community. WhereU also lists independent services by black people such as photography, event planners, landscaping, et cetera. The app is a part of a movement for people to support each other as a community. Famous rapper and activist Killer Mike said, “The first step to organizing your money as a collective is learning how to organize your money on our own.”
